Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Advent season is upon us, which means Christmas is just around the corner.  Students from STM will be involved in a community Advent project to experience the act of giving to the less fortunate. The Shepherds of Good Hope run a “Shoebox Program” for the homeless, who live or go to the shelter for Christmas dinner.

Each person, who goes to the shelter is given a wrapped shoebox, with a Christmas card attached. Inside the shoebox are items that they can use or consume. The items in the shoebox include, 1) Clothing- (something warm) - hats, mitts, gloves, socks, scarves.  2) Toiletry items- toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo ( approx. 385ml), deodorant, body wash (approx. 385ml), lip balm 3) Treats- mints, chocolate bars, or gum.  Other items may include a deck of playing cards, small notebooks and gift cards for a Tim Horton’s coffee. ($5 amount only)

This year, our Advent Project “12 days of Giving”, will continue to support the Christmas ShoeBox Campaign for the Shepherds of Good Hope. Beginning Nov. 27, students will be invited to bring in a variety of items outlined by the “12 Days of Giving”. Each of the 12 days will promote a different item that is in great need by The Shepherds of Good Hope. There is no expectation to bring in items every day, instead, as a family, please decide what you would like to contribute towards this campaign and send it in on the chosen day of the campaign. Our Social Justice Club will be tallying donations and organizing the donations into the Shoeboxes (to be ready for delivery). Special thanks to our Social Justice Club for their leadership with this special school-wide project. This year the Shepherds of Good Hope has asked our us to consider the urgent need for “toiletries for men”.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and support with our Advent project. The 12 Days of Giving will be an amazing opportunity for students, staff and families to engage in meaningful and deep conversations about love, kindness and mercy and the true spirit of giving during the Advent season.

With heartfelt appreciation,
