Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

After much reflection and contemplation, I have made the decision to retire at the end of June 2020. I have been thinking about this decision to retire since last summer; I submitted my official notification to the school board in February and had planned to share this news with the STM community immediately following the March break. With the school closures and the current global pandemic crisis, there does not seem to be a “right time” to share this news. My decision to retire is not related to the Covid-19 crisis. I am retiring healthy and energetic to join my retired husband in the next phase of our lives.

I will be retiring with many fond memories of the various educational roles I have had during the last 27 years, both in Nova Scotia and here in Ottawa. It has been a privilege to be part of the Ottawa Catholic School Board during the last 21 years of my career.

I feel extremely blessed to have been part of such a compassionate and innovative school community during the last 6 years. It has been such an honor and privilege to serve St. Thomas More as Principal and Lead Learner. I have always been so impressed with the students, staff and parents of St. Thomas More. Your dedication, compassion, innovation and generosity is truly outstanding! My life is richer due to the wonderful people I have encountered during my time at St. Thomas More. I remain fully committed to our school community in the coming months; I will do my best to ensure a smooth transition with the Principal assigned to replace me.

St. Thomas More will always hold a very special place in my heart!

With gratitude,

Namaste

Ms. Denise Gotell
