Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, St. Bernard Parish along with other parishes in our diocese are raising food to ship to Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. This northern community has many impoverished families in need of our help. We are pleased to continue this important partnership and we are seeking your support with donations.

We are pleased to report that this national initiative now serves 12 Arctic communities and hopes to add another four this year.  SSVP (Society of St Vincent de Paul) conferences across Ottawa will be busy this spring filling two 20 ft sea containers with large quantities of 34 different food/ household items.  These efforts will provide 40 families in Rankin Inlet with a monthly food hamper for an entire year. The ship sails from Montreal in the summer, to arrive in late Sept/Oct.

This year the Ottawa South Conference will collect canned luncheon meat, carnation canned milk and baking powder. We are asking for donations of only the items listed below, brand names and sizes specified.

This is  a wonderful opportunity for our students to answer God's call to service and to connect with the people of Rankin Inlet through education and action.  We value the engagement of our youth in this social justice endeavour.

Please check out the video below which offers a good overview of this initiative.

The food will be shipped at the end of June and must provide for a whole year, so all food must have a best before date of 2020 or later. When grocery shopping, please consider picking up one or more of these items and dropping them off at St. Thomas More or send them in with your child by Thursday, May 17th. We are Sent to Be the Good News and we deeply appreciate your continued generosity.

Thank you for your support!

The St. Thomas More Community
