Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is our pleasure to share some wonderful ECO news with our community! As you know our school community has been maintaining our strong GOLD certification the past few years with our ECO status in Ontario Schools. The St. Thomas More community, with the incredible support of the STM ECO-Club, raised the bar this year and we have been awarded the HIGHEST possible certification by Ontario ECO Schools: PLATINUM! This is a very high achieving award, only 8 schools achieved this certification in OCSB.

Congratulations to everybody! Your outstanding commitment to all of our environmental initiatives are truly appreciated!
Together we are Better!

A very special thank you and shout out to our ECO-Club and passionate teacher leads (Mme. Lafrance, Mme. Flo and Mr. Gulick). Their passion, enthusiasm and leadership have taken our community to new heights, soaring to PLATINUM certification this year.

You are invited to check out the criteria below to qualify for this very high standard:
Platinum certification is designed to reflect the highest level of achievement and indicates that a school has taken a comprehensive approach to implementing the Ontario EcoSchools program. Schools must reach Gold certification (a minimum of 75% of the possible points in EACH of the six sections) and claim a minimum of 20 out of 25 Platinum points to be assessed for Platinum certification.
Evidence required in all areas:
I. Teamwork and Leadership
II. Energy Conservation
III. Waste Minimization
IV. School Ground Greening
V. Curriculum
VI. Environmental Stewardship

STM plans to celebrate this incredible accomplishment and honor our school's commitment to Mother Earth with an outdoor "PLATINUM PARTY!" We will host an extended recess party on Tuesday, June 26th with some special highlights and music outside.
Many thanks!
Ms. Gotell , Ms. McGarry and the STM ECO-Club
