Dear Parents/Guardians:

Winter conditions during Ottawa winters presents challenging conditions for our school community during drop off and pick times. The safety of your children (our students) is critically important. We seek your patience and cooperation in securing safe parking spots in our school neighborhood throughout the winter months.  Please ensure that the driveways of local residents are not blocked at any time. For the safety of our students, drivers are asked to slow down and proceed with caution as we cope with the challenges of a winter in Ottawa. Give yourself extra time in the mornings to ensure your children arrive on time for school. (no later than 8:30am) Parents are also reminded there is no entry in the bus lane in front of the school during the hours of 8:00 am until 8:45 am and 2:30 pm until 3:15 pm.

Parents are reminded that the location for "end of day pick up" for students in Grades 1-6 is the entrance doors in our backyard. The only exception would be on "Snow Days" when bus transportation is cancelled. On these days, end of day pick up for all students is from our main foyer.

If you need to pick up your child(ren) early for an appointment, etc, please ensure you make arrangements for pick up no later than 2:30pm. Please do not arrange for your children to be picked up from 2:30-3:00pm. This is an extremely busy time of day in a large school. We thank you for your cooperation!

On another note, please ensure your children dress in warm layers and are prepared for outdoor play during the winter months. We suggest packing extra socks, mittens for your child(ren) in case these items get wet through the day. Please put your child's (first name and the first initial of the last name) on the inside tags of their clothing; this greatly assists with items in "Lost and Found".

Please note: Mr. Kay does his best to maintain safe conditions on the outer walking path along the Kindergarten fence. At times, due to weather or fluctuating temperatures, the walking conditions may be challenging. During the winter months, if the pathway conditions are too challenging to walk safely, families are invited to use the pathway through the FDK yard.

Your continued cooperation and support are greatly appreciated!

With thanks,

Ms. Gotell and Mrs. Gamache
